It is a Tsunami

We have a small discussion in language class about an article post in newspaper. The writer argued that using Tsunami to refer to the current financial crisis is incorrect. To him(or her), Tsunami is the natural disaster that due to earthquake at seabed, which sent giant waves to the shore, and claim thousands of life. In the financial crisis, he or she don't see people losing their life, they just lose money, so, he reject the usage of the phrase ' Tsunami'.
That is the basic idea of his article.
However, we all agree that Tsunami is a perfect word in describing the current crisis in market. The language scheme that the original writer use is called Metaphor, and he or she should be credited for selecting the correct phrase. It is refer to the major disaster that is facing by people around the world, the turmoil in market. And although no one will lose his life(of course), but it bring suffer and pain to everyone.
And besides, if the Tsunami occur in a place of no people or life, no one will lose their life for sure, then is it, a Tsunami?
The usage of language schemes is to add rhetorical effect in a passage, to catch the attention of the readers, and make reading more interesting. And metaphor has always been a common schemes that writer used, as to compare a situation with another phenomenon more lively. So, why should be so rigid in language and be robbed of the fun in reading a literature piece?

RG Veda........

I mean to read the manga one volume per day(there is 10 volume in total)....... Instead I finish it in 2 days...........Everytime if I have decided to read a manga (if and only if I really want to read it), building a time table is useless........If you fail to 'tail' and you 'tail' to fail.
RG Veda is a story about wish. Every one has different kind of wish, different kind of persistence....although some are weird to me.........To grant their wish, they will do anything to fulfil it, no matter at what cost and the consequences. In this story, fortune telling play an important part. Every one's fate has been preordained, no one can change it, just as no one can change the star's orbit, but still, the book's characters work hard to against their fate. In the end, everything happened just as predicted in the fortune telling, but it was stopped at the very last moment.....by attachment (or, love?)...........A good manga, the characters are so beautifully drawn, good plot, good art, good suspens...(Anaphora).........
But what make me like the story is that the characters' behaviour, their fights against their fates in the extent of willing to sacrifice the other's happiness to grant their wishes, although they are in pain in bringing this to others. It might sound it is not that noble, but it is the reality. If I was the victim, I will blame and hate them as well, but I will agree they deserve their happiness just as I do.

My New Room

Moving in to new room is a big deal for me. Finally, I can unpack all my stuff and put my 'huge' luggage aside. Therefore, I was a little bit excited about it. For me, unpacking is a sign of settle down at a place for a long period and it will help me to develop a sense of belonging. But, I was quite surprised to see my future room in a chaos state since the previous residents hadn't moved out and all their stuff are everywhere(cause they were packing at that time). I would only describe with 1 word 'messy'. After some tidying, scrubbing and 'decorating', I think I like my room. Although the bed is small(to be honest, I NEVER thought that a bed can be that small!), it is quite spacious, and the table is just like the one I have at home(and, I am really happy with it)!

I would briefly describe my room. It is a triple bedroom. There will be 2 upper bunk beds and 1 bottom bunk bed with 3 desks, with 1 desk locate below a upper bunk bed and 2 others locate near the window. The difference of bunk bed at my room compare with the normal bunk bed is the lower bunk bed has higher 'ceiling', which mean the upper bunk bed is nearer to the ceiling. For example, while I can stand at my home upper bunk bed, I could only sit at here before I hit my head. It is also equipped with 3 cupboards(genuine design, I would say, Hong Kong people are amazing at using every possible space). From my window, I can view the sea and also the outdoor swimming pool(Beautiful scenery, the only eyesore is the construction site of the new hall). From the common room, the view is even greater! Well, it is hard to describe with words. The other limitation is the location of my room which is quite far from the toilet and also the common room. Another interesting thing is we have to enter code before we can go into toilet(To be precise, only female toilet). Just a little wonder, if someone is on 'big business', it will be a definitely nuisance.........

Hong Kong Public Transport

Hong Kong public transportation is much different from Malaysia in many ways. First, the minibus. The minibus in Hong Kong has a very notorious name, which is called bus that take life, or 夺魂小巴. The fact is that the bus is driven so fast at the hilly area and all the minibuses are attached with a speed meter which will beep once its speed is over 80km/hr. Besides, the minibuses will not depart if it is not full and it also reject standing passenger. And it don't have bell, and passenger who want to get off, you just have to yell "you lok!"(I want to get off).
Second, the MTR, or mass transit railway. It is a very complicated railway web. Imagine to have 8 or 9 main railways in small island like Hong Kong. Every railway station also has mutiple entrances and exits, and you will have big trouble if you exit at the wrong exit! It is convenient, but to new comers, it can be very confusing........
Next, octopus card. It is like debit card which can be used at public transportation, convenient store and vending machine and etc etc. In chinese, it is called 八达通, may be just to described its mutiple uses, and I think it is the reasons it is called 'octopus'. Anyway, we do wonder whether it will deduct the money if we accidentally lean at the vending machine at the incorrect place?

First Impression

1st day
HKUST is a small university building on the hillside and face to the ocean. It has a beautiful scenery and is a favorite field trip destination. Although it is small, I hadn't managed to venture around the university. The first day is full of registrations, opening account, buying stuff, etc etc. To me, it is quite weird since the local and international students have different orientation. As we walked around the campus, we could see students wearing different Hall T-shirts and participate in their activities. It felt that the international student are left out, but may be it is because the office consider some non-local students don't know how to speak in cantonese?

2nd day
I woke up to find out today is typhoon no.8(and increase to no.9 later that day). All the orientation activities had been canceled. For Malaysia students who had never faced typhoon, we just brave ourselves and ventured around the campus. The wind blow at a strong magnitude that we never experienced or imagined before. We could not even walk in straight line and most of time we walked and floated at the same time. Basically, this day end in campus tour lead by Malaysia seniors. All the class will be take placed in the main Academic Concourse and inside is just like a maze. Well, it will take me some time to familiar with that place. We also visiting some other halls and made comparisons. Hall IV has the biggest and noisiest room, New Hall has basin inside the room(I would much like that!), but I think I will satisfied with Hall II. Due to typhoon, all the school canteens had been closed and Mac Donald is the only opening restaurant(We don't have much choice.....)

3rd day
Today we went to Mong Kok. My conclusion is it is a very busy street. It is so crowded with people even at late of night. Sleepless city! We just spend our half day there, shopping! According to the other students, the clothes and cosmetic products there are quite cheap to which I, to tell the truth, cant really differentiate it. They said that I will learn to use the cosmetic soon, well, my old friend, how do you think of that?
